Ever hear people talking about "The (Night) Hum" and not know what they're talking about? Well it's a very low pitched hum (hence the name) that only certain people seem to be able to pick up on, most commonly at night when trying to sleep, as this is when ambient noise is at its lowest. The best way to describe it is as a diesel engine running in the distance for a period of time.
The purpose of this video was to make life simple for me; instead of trying to describe this phenomenon I could just direct people to this video to hear for themselves.

Some people claim the noise is interference with the brains connections to the ears from sources such as nearby high power masts or sattelite/radio signals, while others claim it's simply the ears vibrating on a microscopic level due to reactions from stress and fatigue etc. Similair to tinitis, nobody actually knows the real cause of this.

In the video, there are two 30 second clips of the noise- the first one as real as possible, depending on what audio output you are using, and the second one is a boosted version for those of us that cannot hear the first part.

The noise is of very low frequency and amplitude- between 25-50 Hertz, it's at the extreme low end of the spectrum of human hearing (We can generally hear down to 20Hz), so some people may not be able to hear it at all.

If you have decent hearing and are still struggling to hear this, then you need a better source of audio- most modern headphones should allow for an accurate perception of this clip, or if you want to take it to the extreme, a sub woofer should do the trick too...
