Afghanistan re-buries its late President

Muhammad Dawood Khan was overthrown in a bloody coup that was led by the Peoples Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDMP) in 1979. His re-burial was preceded by a paying of homage by high level afghan and foreign dignitaries including President Hamid Karzai who paid rich tribute to the slain leader. Mohammad Dawood Khan is remembered for his numerous projects that he initiated during his five years of presidency. He was also the founder of democracy in Afghanistan. He had overthrown his cousin King Zahir Shah in 1973 in a bloodless coup while the King was on a tour of Europe.
