Just want to make this clear to everyone, Americans calls their sport football because the ball is a foot long. The rest of the world calls soccer football because they use their feet. Both names make sense.

Im an american soccer fan, i cheer FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Seattle sounders all equally. yes, i support a club from my home country. as well as the 2 clubs i watched my whole life as a kid that got me into soccer . so i would say im pretty fair. if you think hometown fans dont exist in this country... look at MLS attendences and how high they are for many teams.

Plenty of Americans play soccer. You've had some of the biggest names on the planet play in your leagues, from pele to Henry to Beckham etc, and you have made it out of the World Cup group stages which is more than can be said for my beloved Scotland. You get decent crowds too. It's a brilliant sport, as are your own native sports.

I'm glad to the US growing enjoyment of football/soccer. And it's true - the US team is a pretty good side and will be competitive fairly soon I reckon. I don't like the franchise thing though - it kinda takes some of the soul out of the season. No promotion and relegation battles, you guys just seem to be missing out on something there, but welcome aboard the football bus anyway!

Lol, clearly. I mean its not like several million people watched the USA vs Mexico game the other week, that the last World Cup got as many American viewers as the World Series, that MLS stadiums get a quarter of a million people to their games every weekend, that surveys suggest Soccer is the 2nd most popular sport among American 12-24 year olds or that the USA has the 2nd highest participation rate in the sport of anywhere in the planet.
