Nick won his first Championship Belt at the NAGA Tournament of Champions in April 2009. He won the title match in Expert No Gi with a tight ezekiel choke. (Note to Nick's opponents: if it hurts really bad or you are going to pass out - TAP!) There was some controversy with this one - the other kid's coach ran in screaming at the ref because his kid was hurt and claimed Nick's choke was an illegal neck crank, the ref defended Nick's move saying it was a legit choke (you can see him demonstrating that to the guy in the video), things went back and forth a bit and the main guy at NAGA (Kip Kollar) eventually ended up awarding Nick the win and belt. Nick is a Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student of Daniel Moraes and Ryan Brinkman at Relson Gracie Jacksonville. (No new tournaments to post at this time so catching up on some past events from earlier this year).

  • Crazy That They Are Banning Ezekiels, Right? So Dumb. But Yes I've Seen Nick Grapple And I Was Actually Right Across The Mats When The Ezekiel Issue Happened, What A Joke, But Either Way Great Job Nick, Hope To See You At Naga November 21st!

  • Yep - it's now officially listed as one of the moves not allowed by kids or teens at NAGA - It is painful, but it does not bend or twist the neck so really not sure what their problem with it is, but when you attend their tournaments, gotta play by their rules. Trying to schedule for NAGA in November, but have to play it by ear as it is an overnight trip on this one for us. Thanks for the positive comments!

  • Great ezekiel choke!. I don't understand why the opponent's coach is so angry because, in my opinion, it's an absolutely legal choke. Nick's opponent must submit to him immediately, even though Nick's ezekiel choke was performed perfectly and because of it caused a very painful choke for his opponent. Congratulations Nick, you're a great fighter!!.

(Note: Sorry for my grammatical and syntactical mistakes, my English is bad).

  • Thanks! That is one of Nick's favorite chokes, but for some reason NAGA is banning it in the future as a neck crank (?). The way Nick applies it it causes even pressure on both sides of the neck and becomes a (painful) blood choke. Most other organizations have it as legal when applied correctly (Nick used it at his recent WGF win in one of the matches).

  • what a jack ass that coach was he should be ashamed of his actions, nice choke nick I was one of the judges on your sports jujitsu match the one that voted for you good work keep it up.

  • Thanks for the positive comments (and your vote in the close Sport JuJitsu championship match!) Nick is continuing to train hard, and is looking forward to competing again at Sport JuJitsu next time a tournament is held in this area.

  • i'm impressed by your performance

  • is that victor?

  • Ezekiel...not a neck crank..

  • Wow what a complete ass to explode on the ref like that. Injuries and getting knocked out (chocked out in this case) are part of all contact sports, kids or not. Who is the instructor that exploded?

  • Is not the dangerous to press together legs as Nick does?

  • congrats by the way lol

  • that is a really interesting choke, im new to grappling and im going to talk to my instructors about that choke and c if they can show it to me. because its really interesting but hard to really c the mechanics of the choke. nice video.

  • i will follow Nick he will do well.
