8x8 Arduino LED Matrix

This is a video of my RGB LED matrix running with full control of the red, green, and blue LEDs. It is controlled by code that I wrote for my Arduino Duemilanove. I use four CD4051s to provide all of the inputs and outputs I need to control the matrix. I demultiplex with three of them to get full control of the red, green, and blue columns, and then multiplex with the fourth to decide which row goes high. The general idea behind all of the multiplexing/demultiplexing is to use POV to light the entire display.

I still have a couple of issues with the overall functionality. I need to get rid of some ghosting that I still have appearing, and I also want to get the pulse width modulation working. The flicker that you see in the video is not actually a problem, it is just due to the aliasing caused by my camera. The colors are also much more vivid in real life, my camera cannot pick them up very well.

where do you start when making something like this?

@TheAtlantaparker The best way to start is to first do something simple, like an LED bar graph and then from there move onto a single colored matrix. After you get the single colored matrix figured you can use the same principles to add in the other colors, you just need a lot more wiring.
