Jon reassembles a malfunctioning laptop with a replacement motherboard. This is a continuation from the disassembly video located here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwDm6qUhHcI

For those of you who are working on this model and need additional help, the service manual can be found here:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/...

Though be careful, depending on the exact model you have, numbers and locations of screws can differ from what is shown in the service manual.

  • May I ask where you purchased the replacement motherboard?

  • @JJay083

In this instance, I dealt with a trusted seller through ebay to receive a used board. There are many folks who strip working parts from toss-aways and resell them. Look for sellers who give a lot of information about the item and provide guarantees in the event of receiving a dead part or one that fails your stress testing.

New parts can usually be ordered direct from the manufacturer or from online vendors. I recommend Newegg for interchangeable parts.

  • Hi Jon, i was wondering if you could help me out. Ive taken apart my Hp Pavilion Dv2000, i think its a slighty older version then the one you are working on in the video. I'm now putting it back together, i just dusted it out, because it wouldn't turn on. Do you think its power button that is toast or the heat sink & fan?
