Video describing my home veggie oil filtration set up. Specifically storage of completed fuel.

I filter used cooking oil from a local restaurant and burn it as fuel in my 2001 diesel Volkswagen Jetta TDI. And I'm about to explain and show everything I did to accomplish this.

  • how do you know when the oil is completely "de-watered"

  • You use the 'splatter test'. Put a small amount in a pan and heat it up. If it 'splatters', that is the water in the oil boiling. Even if it doesn't, it will still have some water in it - but it will not be serious. Diesel you get at the pump has water in it as well, all fuel does infact.

  • is the dish detergent biodegradable?

  • :) It doesn't advertise itself as such. I'll be moving to some that is this spring. That's where I get the 20L containers anyways! :)
