This video is how to mod a PS2 so you can do a hot-swap. A common misconception is that you can play ANY game using a hot-swap. THIS IS WRONG! You need to use the original, to hot-swap to the backup. It's useful for games, such as guitar hero, where you have custom tracks on the backup disks or when the origional becomes damaged but still (partly) loads.

In order to actually Hot-Swap to a PS2 backup disk (without the original) you need to either use a memory card exploit on your system (soft-mod) or have a PS2 disk that is designed for hot-swapping (such as Swap Magic).

There is a built-in exploit in how the PS2 loads PS1 games that DOES allow the hot-swap method to work with ANY PS1 backup, but you need to use an original (doesn't need to be the same game) PS1 disk to swap to the PS1 backup. Just swap the disks when the PS1 logo pops up on the screen.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Be careful when you're swapping disks. By disabling the brake the disk will NOT stop spinning when you open the lid and there is a chance of cutting your finger on the spinning CD. Consider yourself warned!

Hope you enjoy, happy gaming!

  • after unscrewing the screw between the controllers, i cant get the components separated from the base and i don't want to break it, any tips?

  • @mongorianbeef Ensure you're lifting it out from the back of the system, because at the front I believe it's still held in by the ports. It kinda has to lift from the back, slide a tad back, and then come out... Another thought, this video (and PS2) is from 2008, later versions may have slight differences so look for another chassis screw or maybe a glob of glue, if you lift the board a tad the screw/glue will be around the area that lifts the least.

  • so for example i have the original copy of san andreas and i wanted to play the modded one that comes with superman etc. and i swap the original for the backup will it work?

  • @repulic5 As far as I know, that will work. You would have to try it to be sure though.

  • Thumbs up if Imeagainsttheworld sent you here :P

  • @imcool875 The whole point is to limit the "damage" done to your original disks. We're not here to support your software piracy habits. If people make a game worth playing then you should be buying it looser.
