The new 13-inch printer offers color-management integration with Photoshop and uses eight pigment-based inks. The B8850 will be available in March 2008 at calumetphoto.com for an estimated $549. The printer will come with HP Photosmart Essential software for editing, organizing, and printing photos.

The Photosmart Pro B8850 Photo Printer outputs images at sizes up to 13x44 inches with eight HP Vivera pigment-based inks. Its maximum resolution is 4800 dpi, and it can print on paper and other media up to 0.7 mm thick.

Among the B8850's notable features is print-control and color-management integration with Adobe Photoshop CS3, and with Photoshop CS2 via a plug-in. The Vivera ink set includes Photo Black and Matte Black inks, which the printer accommodates without any need to swap out cartridges. Other features include an automatic calibration system and HP's Electrostatic Drop Detection system, which the company claims minimizes ink waste by monitoring the print head and automatically cleaning individual nozzles as needed. Less efficient systems require a manually controlled cleaning process that flushes ink out of all nozzles to clear a clog.

  • How much money can you save by simply buying *refill kits for this printer??

  • Refill kits from sources outside of HP will void your warranty, we do not recommend them

  • what dpi is it?

  • 4800 DPI

  • Hi David:

Today we sell them for $28.79. How far they go depends on the work you are doing, if you are printing a black dog in a cave, they won't last very long.

  • Can you pint on magnet sheets with this photosmart pro or older versions?

  • Amazing how simple it can be to communicate with people and have them understand a certain video, you made my day.

  • Can you print on foil (selfadhesive foil)?

  • @calumetphotonews if its damaged

  • this is awesome! now i can custom the vinyl record jacket! :D 12x12! i've always wanna printer that print that wide.. now this is da shit! kinda pricey but better than thousand $ printer tho

  • That's true! But when the warranty runs out... The 'refill business' seems to be pretty good option offering the same quality of ink / toner for WAY cheaper! I don't see any refill instructions for this printer yet.

  • days post mortem?
