My slow pace freestyle.

For a long time I couldn't figure out why my balance was so poor (not taking into account my head position - it's to high obviously).
The answer is that my left arm is overreaching on hand entry and hence crossing the middle line (goes from spine through the top of the head).
That causes very bad initial position for a catch phase and thus not efficient stroke and splashy kick (I noticed that bad kick is always consequence of a poor body rotation).
In my newer videos you could see how my stroke improved just correcting this things.
Swimming is very difficult in terms of technique, since you can't do one thing correct if the other part of your stroke is done improperly, so it's like a circle; one mistake causes other.
From my experience I can say that there are points you should watch for.

1. Entry overreaching (described above)
2. Head position (look 5-6 feet ahead of you)
3. High elbow catch (in the begging of your catch phase your elbow should drop slightly, so you could prepare your arm for a high elbow catch. do not pull with your hand!)
4. Single leg kick (in 2 beat kick freestyle only one leg should contribute the kick. the other one should be relaxed)
5. Roll to breathe (don't raise your head. Just roll enough to the side)
6. High elbow recovery (your recovery should be elbow driven, not hand driven! Hand driven recovery leads to entry overreaching and poor balance)

  • It's curious that your right kick causes a splash consistently while the left doesn't. Nice swim though.

  • i am thinking the there is too much rotation while u kick

  • Your body is not as streamlined as it could be. Lengthening the neck and flattening the back of the head to be the same surface as the rest of the back would help to balance out your body from head to hips. I like to imagine my spine becoming a steel rod laying on the surface, maybe titled a tad up on the neck end. Then if I add or take away rotation it is always ABOUT that rod(my spine).

Also pointing the feet would get you fluttering propulsively.

Impressive for a rec swimmer overall!

  • I am NOT the expert, but maybe you should try to keep you feet more in line with the rest of your body?

    Just an idea...
