I once testet a Yamaha Aes 920 in a store.
It was reduced in Price (699 Bucks),
But i was really disappointed with it, sharp fret ends, it had even rusted frets, sone scratches and the sound was really weak.
I suppose it was a lemon, but i wonder how this can be ?
Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany and it was like 10 classes better, full warm sound and great Playability.
I have a Yamaha Pacifica 812W too and this one is TOP NOTCH !!!! Did someone have negative experiences with Aes 720 ?

hamielec.......you should try some yamaha guitars some time. I've been playing them for years. They are as good as most on the market. Better than most Ibanez, and Jacksons in my opinion. I prefer them to strats and Gibsons too.

Authentic Gibsons more often sound like crap, IMO. New ones, that is, especially with the crap they put out today. Yamaha has made some pretty good runs too, and some bad ones. Just like any other company.
My personal favorites? 60's, 70's era Gibson/Epi hollowbodies and solid bodies, 60's era fenders, and 60-70's and 90's yamahas. I have an excellent sounding yamaha les paul hollowbody that makes a sweet jazz guitar... (AEX 502)

U forgot drums, hi fi systems, pianos, amps, etc etc etc

AES 920 is more expensive (top guitar in AES series). Also it's made in Japan and it's a handcrafted guitar. AES 720 is taiwanian, it is cheaper and very good one too, but isn's so universal.

its not a true les paul thats the problem
but quite nice!!

Not only Gibson and Epiphone do/did great Les Paul guitars, also Edwards, Tokai, The Heritage...
And I say without any doubt that todays edwards are LOT better than Gibson's Les Pauls (Think in an edward of 600$ and a Gibson of 1200$ not the Custom one), also, everybody knows that the old Heritages were LOT better than Gibsons and old Tokais are still lot better than Epiphones and costs the same.
I wish I could buy a Heritage, but I can not afford it, like I can not buy a Gibson.
