WASHINGTON, April 15, 2003 -- Country artist Darryl Worley and his band will perform in concert at the Pentagon on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m., Eastern Daylight Time.
According to promoters, the 45-minute concert at the building's Center Courtyard is designed to show support for service men and women participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will speak briefly before the concert begins. Other senior DoD leaders are expected to attend.

The event was broadcast live on DefenseLink via streaming audio. To hear this concert, listeners must have a sound-capable computer with RealPlayer software installed. Click here for free Download RealPlayer software.

The webcast is available until April 23 as an archived file. (No longer available.)

DoD officials urge Web listeners to use at least a 56k bps connection and note that bandwidth available at their location will dictate the quality and duration of their webcast connection.

Besides the webcast, the concert will be telecast live on the American Forces Radio and Television Service and the Pentagon Channel. It will also be available via KU-band satellite at these coordinates: British Telecom satellite Galaxy 11, 91 degrees west, Transponder 12 (downlink frequency: 11942 vertical polarity) and audio frequency 6.2-6.8. Satellite window time will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time.

Officials note that KU-band transmission is for users such as commercial television stations and large hotels. Some major military installations, including U.S. Navy ships at sea in a location to "read" the Galaxy 11 satellite, also have the type of dish that can access the transmission.

Worley, with songwriter Wynn Varble, wrote "Have You Forgotten?" after he took part in the 2002 Christmas USO-sponsored tour in Afghanistan. "When I got home," he said, "I felt like some people tended to forget the terror and the horror we felt on 9-11. The first thing I thought of was, 'those soldiers damn sure haven't forgotten what they're over there for.'"

Worley's pro-American song "Have You Forgotten?" took only five weeks to hit No. 1 on Billboard magazine's country music chart. According to the artist's Web site, a compact disc of the same title was scheduled to be released April 15.
