Two nice competition 6/8 marches - Angus MacKinnon from that amazing composer of 6/8 marches, Donald Shaw Ramsay and the utterly fantastic, bottom hand "sorter outer" Bruce Gandy's Farewell to The Iron Horse, a lovely composition from Renè Cussons. Enjoy!!

  • Years ago, while a policeman in Scotland, Donald Sahw Ramsey was shot in th performance of this duties. Doctors told him not to play his pipes as it was would aggrivate his wound. I don't recall him slowing down. He was a first class gentleman, Under his tutorship, The City of San Francisco Pipe Band competed and won top honors at the Santa Rosa Games, circa 1965. Correct me on that date if anyone knows?

  • Hhahaha yep his brother is Alasdair bless they are such a lovely family. They are always so sweet to my mum as she obviously gets very teary eyed when they come and play for her. A very small world indeed eh! So yes its their dads tune I was talking about. I see they have a FB page so am going to fb them and ask them about the tune for you!

  • Hiya - I am sure it must be John Angus. He and his brother, Alasdair, are in London. I played with John in the Pride of Murray Pipe Band. A fantastic piper!! What a small world!!

  • I am not sure, I knew him when I was a kid so he must be I dunno maybe in his 40s?? All his brothers play too..his Dad was Donald Smith from South Uist same as my grandad..but I think the kids maybe born in the UK like us. I have sent it to my dad to ask him!
