Barbarian tribes often had women in their armies. They were mainly used as morale boosters for their men shouting encouragements and the like. And like these Germanic women, would scream to dishearten/frighten/startle the enemy.

The majority of this article is women leaders in particular, but there are several references to entire female units including Goths, who were Germanic (like the screaming women above).
