Bagad Cap Caval is the most successful Breton pipe band ever, both in Brittany and Scotland (Grade One since 2009). They have been taking part in the World Pipe Band Championships since 1996, finishing 3rd in Grade Two in 2004 and 6th in 2006, winning best bass section and 2nd prize for drumming and winning the Grade Two championships in 2008.

I thought that dress and drill didn't count in the overall placings. As someone mentioned there is no need for these guys to wear highland attire as Brittany has a long history of piping. It's like not allowing an Irish band to wear a saffron kilt. All this aside I think everyone here agrees this is a fantastic band and has a character all it's own. I think it would be a shame if bands became generic and didn't tune with the tuning and play with the style that represents where they come from.

Hummmmm . I don't know... you are speaking about preference for people with kilt. ?
Here in my country I am traying to create a scottish pipe band.. but playing..breton - galicien - asturias - Ireland - everything....and many people say : do you have license to dress kilt ? .. JA !! ( so whith this question.. you can understand.. the human mind ... the poor human mind ) in my opinion this band...play very well very good....very good.. almost perfect... similiar to Simon fraser....

i'm always really impressed by cap caval, especially with regard to chanter tone. it's not too sharp, and retains a wonderful warmth that some of the top grade 1 bands can sometimes lack.
i think they could jump up a few places in the standings if they would start wearing kilts. my gut feeling is that the judges at the worlds don't look on the uniform too kindly.
