The song was co-written and co-produced by kd lang and Rick Nowels for the film Anywhere But Here.
Both the film and soundtrack were released in 1999, though information I've read suggested that this video was not aired until 2001, I'm not sure how correct that is.

I was in the grocery store shoppin and this song was playing. I was like damn every lyric is expressing what Im feeling right now. Im glad I was able to find it on youtube. Cant stop listening to it. Im heading anywhere but here (Ocala, Florida).

I remember listening to this song on the PA speakers in the United Artists cinema back in 2000. Based on that, I'm pretty sure that this was released as a single in 2000. Thank you for posting this.

It was not released as a commercial single but you can find promo versions on ebay, amazon etc. The only other way is to buy the soundtrack album of the same name, which was released commercially.
