  • I have a rhodesian ridgeback myself. She's a wonderful dog and very smart (and stubborn). However, my biggest problem is her prey drive. When i take her on walks and she sees those squirrels or small dogs, she gets tunnel vision and nothing i say will get her to snap out of it. When she lunges and i go the complete opposite direction, she'll fall to the ground, but immediately get back up and keep lunging toward the animal. Do you have this problem?

  • @this1ssteve - Mine will chase things and want to play with them like our cat and other people’s dogs for example. If she actually got lucky and caught a squirrel she wouldn’t know what to do next, she’d probably just lick it! And yes she will lunge at some dog's, usually the big one's in our case as small one's tend to bite/bark we have found. So she's a little wary now, but I think it's more because she's excited and wants to meet and greet them. But I think you are doing the right thing.

  • she pops up from her down the second she gets the treat though, she needs to learn what a release word is.

  • @aztami I understand what you are saying, but I was no expert in clicker training then, it was purely one of the many catalysts in the training process to achieve the good girl I have today.

  • Precious. What books do you suggest? Ihave RRs myself and would like to have fun with training them..

  • @rrbreeder To be honest I didn’t read any books on training. When she was a puppy the local socialisation class trainer told me about clicker training and then I just gooled the rest, she’s so well behaved now I’m pleased I took the time when she was young.

  • How often did you train with the clicker?

  • @jozeaphe Eventually you take the food reward and clicker away once the dog is reliable with the command.

  • @cazaline2020 What if the clicker broke or gone missing? would it still obey the command?
