@Majidkb87 Well, I obviously hit a nerve.. lol. Atheism is not a religion or an ideology. It merely describes a lack of belief in gods & goddesses. That's it. Atheists can be left wing or right wing, black or white, religious or non-religious, believe in science or not believe in science. Your 'question' seems more aimed at scientists. They would answer, 'we have some ideas but we don't know... yet'. Which is a lot more honest than your, 'goddidit'. Btw, your attitude is self-defeating.

@Sinnessa Agreed, which is what makes it objective. Theism is neither objective nor moral. Saying that an ethical code is objective because someone decrees it is a contradiction and doubly so since in this case the source of the decree is a fictional being. Even if Yahweh did exist, however, "because I said so" is anything but objective. For that we must look to the facts of reality.

@MagisterPridgen Sam Harris argues a pragmatic case for morals, and while he does use the word objective, it isn't objective in the same sense as typical theism. It isn't an objective standard set by an all powerful law giver. It's an objective standard as an argued permise, a base, from which moral statements can be established as true or false.

Okay, this is totally strange, maybe everyone else knows this. I've been following TheoreticalBullshit for a while now, because I like this guy's critical thinking skills. Not so much....I recommend 'The Moral Landscape' by Sam Harris. There is no need for scripture in the navigation of morality. Indeed, much of what is reputedly commanded by the gods of the Bible or the Koran we regard today as distinctly immoral. Our increasing moral awareness since the Enlightenment is happening despite scripture, not because of it.
