End of medley....only took about 5 MINUTES!!!! LOL!!
first time having this kinda weight on my back in about a year. This was the last set of a long workout done in 116 degree weather. This blew me out! Film stops when I take off the belt but I go on to finish the drag.
My name is Ryan Bakke and I have been a professional heavyweight strongman for a few years now. After getting on the circuit and getting a few competitions under my belt I began looking toward various training methodologies (like westside) to help me "step up my game" but it seemed as though all I did was continually break down some other area of my body while feeling cmpletely run down. I then began to suffer some minor injuries which prevented me from performing at my best. It has been over a year since I have sucessfully completed a contest and personal records are hard to come by!
This brings me to where I am today training with my strength coach Mike Westerling. It has been almost 2 years since I have felt this strong, this "fresh", and this PAIN FREE! Mike has been able to restore a glimer of hope into my strongman career/hobby/passion and has me preparing for my first competition in over a year and it happens to be the National Championship of my sport. No better way to test yourself I suppose!
I will be getting back to my olympic weightlifting roots, the stuff that made me sucessful in the first place, so look for a lot of oly lifting type workouts on there blended with strongman from now on.
For a detailed workout journal go to http://thatworkoutguy.com/. You can also blog there and have Q&A with coach Mike.
