Last week Tuffy was on death row scheduled to be put down. He was saved by Southern California Daschund Rescue. Check their Site or the San Francisco Bay Area Craig's Listing for their northern Cal dogs for adoption.

Anyway, as you can observe Tuffy now enjoys being spoiled on Nob Hill. (How did a "Southern Cal" pooch end up on Nob Hill?)

Well SCDR has a northern California person who rescues Dachshunds in local animal shelters scheduled to be euthanized. So I visited the Nor Cal person and this video shows what happened next.

Here is the Site for Southern California Dachshund Rescue

I'll post update videos over time, a day in the life of Tuffy sort of thing.

Oh, he is really smart too. (No, I'm not just saying that.) His first night in his new home I made him a nice cushy bed. I said "Get in your bed" and I'll be damned, he jumped right into it.

And last week I gave him a car ride, which he loves. Well this week, and on the weekend, when I take him for walks he thinks we are going for a car ride.

After only one trip to the garage, that's three blocks away, he knows the way. I put him on the sidewalk (I carry him down my three flights of stairs) and he bolts for the garage. That's a smart dog.

He also watches me. When he sees me grab his leash or put on a jacket he gets excited because he knows that means it's walk time. That's a smart dog.

Personal Plea: If you are going to get a pet, adopt one from a shelter or rescue, especially overcrowded shelters that have no choice but to put animals to sleep.

As you can see from this video, there's millions of wonderful pets waiting for a home and to be loved.

Bonus comment: Tuffy Bio:

He is about 2 years old,

Male,

Tutored (meaning he had his cajones chopped off),

Is about three pounds overweight (sorry Tuffy, but it's true),

Does not snore at night when sleeping on my bed,

Loves treats,

Is friendly to everyone he meets,

He has a full wardrobe: five sweaters, four insulated winter jackets, four jackets with Thinsulate and reflectors for night walks, three leashes, four harnesses, and two beds (he is not spoiled though).

Confession: although one should not look a gift dog in the mouth, I did, he needs a teeth cleaning.

  • Where did you get the coat fromZ?

  • @YouMeAndMakeUp ... I got that from Target, of all places. It was $10. I have gone back to get more, but they are out. I have not even seen them on eBay. The brand is Woolrich.

  • looks lke a real content dog.

  • @REVHE4D Thank you. Yes, he is really content.

He was in a surrounding of many barking dogs, cages and I think they can sense not be wanted and near death. They can at least sense danger.

So to go from that to my super quiet place, freshly bathed, lots of food and loads of attention, yes, he is one happy dog.

  • With this simple imagery and poignant music you have summed up the very essence of rescue. Our Sammy was 3 hours away from the end but, thanks to kind people at the pound and a dachshund rescue with a small but devoted network of fosters, he is now with us in his forever home. A beautiful little film.

  • I ADOPTED MY LITTLE MADDIE HERE! WONDERFUL! YEAH!!!

  • Thanks for answering :) it will look great on mine!

  • he is beatiful looks just like my brody

  • @WoWmasterArnark... that was the TV on, some commercial. I inserted one of Google's music clips. :)

  • I have great respect for everyone that chooses a shelter dog over a puppy from a breeder. I got my dachshund Leopold at age 2 (called Leo) from a shelter too. He was considered a "problem dog" since he didn't get along with dogs/children/traffic or anything that moved fast or made a lot of noise. It took a lot of work, but he now enjoys walking into town and accepts other dogs around him. He still doesn't really play with other dogs, but that will come with time. Love him more than anything!
