Kingsnake laying egg

Kingsnake laying 1 of 6 eggs. This is egg number 4, if you look you can see the lumps caused by eggs 5 and 6 in the snake's body.

This snake has a radiotransmitter implanted inside it and I have been tracking it for the past 3 years. This year the snake moved into a someone's backyard where there was some construction going on and was almost buried alive. I decided to rescue the snake and when I captured it I found it was gravid. I didn't want to release the snake because I feared it would just move back into the same backyard.

I planned to keep the snake until the construction was finished and during this time I came home to find it laying eggs so I ran for the video camera. This egg was rather oddshaped compared to the others and I wonder if it developed adjacent to the radiotransmitter, however, this is purely speculation. The eggs are being incubated and the hatchlings will be released when they are born.

I have released the adult snake and it is doing fine. It did move back into the same backyard where it was in the predicament, but fortunately I waited to release it until the construction was finished.

Kingsnakes are not venomous, they are constrictors.
