Why Patrick Stewart Became an Actor at the Calgary Expo 2012

At the 2012 Calgary Expo I enjoyed many moments of happiness and glee, but nothing like getting to ask the person who inspired me to become an actor why he went into the profession in the first place. His response was touching, thoughtful and more than I ever could have hoped for.

When I say I was inspired by Patrick Stewart what I mean is that I grew up watching him on TNG and I knew there was something about him that elevated his performance above most others on television. The 'truth' that he speaks of must have been difficult to find, at times, when handed some of those sci-fi scripts over the years, but he managed to pull it off. I will never forget how I felt when he yelled "There are four lights!"

AMEN! Thanks for posting this. A little group of actors (including me) were up on the side and SO glad to hear him talking about acting. "To find you are in the company of 30 other strange people all with the same longings you have is fantastic." That was probably me clapping at that point.

I touched my heart when he said the part about being in the company of 30 other strange people because that is how it has always felt for me.

It would have been really cool to talk to you in person about all of this whilst at the expo but I'm grateful to the internet for letting us connect & share in this way :)
