define "obscene rate", your claim implies a measurable set of variables and that you have values that allow comparison between different times periods. My bet: you have jack shit.
"not to move"... sorry...but i am a human being with a brain, i choose to move.
"is anthetical to the very"... useless ad nauseum tautology. Your personal opinion is irrelevant. You are just asserting without proof to sustain your arguments, thus I reject your made up random claims.
Try again.

@transtlantic Recycling and novel resources are just an excuse to consume at an obscene rate.
Moving is not a part of my argument... my point was not to move in the first place.
No part of the argument "Rationalism rules because tech and speed DOES mean better life," doesn't qualify as a non-sequitur fallacy (other fallacies), and therefore is antithetical to the very foundation of being Rational.
But nice try anyway.
-
you present the assumption that there would be an earlier exhaustion of resources. You ignore recycling and an ever chaning world with novel tech that figures out how to use new resources.
why have the cost of chaning the place you live? how is changing to a place nearer (increase costs to the place where you work", is saving the pollution/global warming costs of using cars?
Rationalism rules because tech and speed DOES mean better life.
You just fail to understand the premises.

Longer lives mean greater demand on (and earlier exhaustion of) resources.
Assuming seeing relatives is a good thing, just live within 2 1/2 hours walking distance and save the resource and pollution/global warming costs of using cars.
There are 2 sides to every coin, and faster doesn't always mean better (just ask your mom), But (no surprise) you missed the core Q: How does the argument 'technology and speed mean better life' show that rationalism rules?
It's a non sequitur fallacy.
-
@skoockum Medicine and medical tools (a form of tech) that help you live longer and healther. Cars, let me see family in 2 1/2 hours that would take two weeks to walk. The water pump, lets you have running what in your house, and not have to carry water from a well. Ja none of thses technologies make your life better.

th4nks 4 shar3d..

Fuh-whut??? I just don't see how Technology and Speed necessarily lead/equate to a better life (0:46) let alone how this dubious relationship might bolster rationalism ..or was that line meant to be ironic? If this song has any real hopes of becoming a rationalist anthem, it needs some work.

Gnerally, if a book does not update itself it is outdated and should not be followed.

@KLowD9x I'm not a super brain knowledge guy, but what point were you trying to make? Are religious people autistic? I was simply stating that getting a moral code from a 2 thousand old book isn't very smart. The stories (key word: STORIES) hold worth. (like the golden rule and help people.)
But when it says to kill gays or torture non beilvers I have a stolid stance against it.
Meh. Fundies and text book ruiners can go to hell. I'll stick with moderate scientists and friends.
