It's not invalid. The main issue is that of freedom and human rights(or natural law), and if people are actively working against it. The people controlling and financing the mosque are proven to have extremist views, that end in action. If the mosque would be financed by people who are inclusive and peaceful, rational people wouldn't complain. We are a secular society, and need others to respect it.
