  • You're quite welcome. It is rather nice to see Hitchens opine on subjects other than god and Iraq. It would be a waste of fine intellect to subject it to such narrow criteria.

  • It seems as if you didn't watch the whole thing for if you had you would have seen Hitchens's explanation that Bellow was more expressing people's fears than being a bigot.

  • Ah, to take a literature class with this man. Thanks for posting.

  • @detectivesyme All subtlety and nuance appears to be lost on you. Your tone-deaf replies epitomize the baseness and hysteria that has infected all serious dialogue in the US. The fact that you've favorited Howard Stern videos is completely unsurprising, "son."

  • bellow described my penis perfectly and descriptively.

  • penis lover XD

  • I'm reading this now. I think you need the context of the book to understand what Bellow is doing - the main character is an old Holocaust survivor in failing health who feels increasingly out of place and fearful in the modern world. It's the character who sees the pickpocket as an animal, not Bellow (I think, anyway). Hitchens, on the other hand, seems a bit off the mark to say that "everyone" was afraid of this sort of thing. But he's off the mark pretty often.

  • Well politics and religion are only portions of what he does, it's just that seems to be what people ask him about the most.

  • There's a difference between manipulation and expression.

  • yeah sort of like hitler, i get it now thanks
