@3seahaven No, often the stone remains where it is, but the new owner is officially acknowledged. So if it's in your living room, and you buy something from your neighbor, the stone stays in your living room, but everyone acknowledges that it's his.
This is actually pretty similar to how modern banking works. Much of the gold in Fort Knox is actually owned by other countries...but remains where it is.
