NASA TV retransmission of STS-124 launch (5-31-08) through the K6BEN amateur television repeater. Originating source was the Ames Amateur Radio Club NA6MF (NASA Ames Research Center in south SF bay area, CA). Uplink is 1255MHz and downlink is 421.25MHz (same as cable channel 57 on a NTSC analog TV set). No license is needed for receive only, so attach an external antenna to your TV set, aim the antenna (vertically polarized) at Mt Hamilton.

Now for you people complaining it ain't high def and there's static in the video, ALL tv transmission equipment (L-band uplink, repeater site, etc.) is all done by work of time and expense by individual hams (no govt handouts or corporate sponsorships). We do it like it was done in the old days, LIKE MEN!

Another advantage is NO commercials on K6BEN-ATV, so tune in folks.

  • @kargaroc386

Audio of NASA-TV is retransmitted on Ames Amateur Radio Club freq on 145.585 during Shuttle missions. That is the periodic morse code ID for the audio feed.

  • Very Good Video, I Love Amateur TV, I can't wait to have my RPT. On the Air Again....

  • Luis, what would be really cool is transmit video from the VIP viewing area to a ATV repeater on the VAB. Video transmission from VAB on either 421MHz (catv ch 57), 427 (ch 58), 433 (ch 59), or 439MHz (catv ch 60). All the people along Cocoa Beach, Banana River freeway (or whatever) aim their TV antenna and watch our transmissions direct. Prior to launch and after, we can interview various dignitaries and various people that work on the Shuttle. Or retransmit to your ATV repeater!

  • Excellent. It looks like a small chunk of something comes from around the left side of the main tank and bounces off the shuttle about 3:52 in the video. I hope I'm just seeing things. It was a great view. I've never seen a camera angle like that during launch. Thanks.
