This film is still as relevant today as it was in the 70's. I guess society's "progress" is just an illusion. The film itself is a statement about the prevalence of sensationalism in the media. Objective media is dead now.

It would be wonderful if every tax-paying, honest, law-abiding civilian in the Western world stood together and rose up against criminals and gangsters and corrupt CEOs, but we've committed ourselves to fighting one another.
