this should have won over the leading tones. such a stronger background, and the soloist sings with a controlled vibrato that is not as abrasive as the other. you're not supposed to sing your heart out like the other soloist claims to do; it's a depressing song about one's realization that a relationship has trashed him. if anything, you should be crying the damn words

Chill out. And if you're gonna use words like 'identical,' you might as well back that up with a video of said identical original, right? That way we can see exactly what you're claiming. See that guy in the black shirt and white collar? He worked really hard to arrange this to respect Ben Folds' version while also emulating parts from his live version with the symphony, not to mention the dynamic changes & other stuff. It's really hard to make good arrangements, and I'm very proud of him.

i think the momentum is great--even if it is a slow song.
it's a very peaceful and light arrangement for such heavy lyrics.
