Putting a small piece of sodium in chlorine gas will result in the NaCl formation with huge amount of heat and light. The Cl gas was produced with sodium hypochlorite and sulphuric acid. The reaction must be initiated by wetting the sodium.

  • i'm sure it's hard to get chlorine gas, i'd love to try this at home though!

  • Chlorine is the easiest gas to get at home:

One way is to react bleach(sodium hypochlorite)and a strong acid such as HCl(=muriatic acid) or this video sulphuric acid.

The sodium is very hard to get, it is impossible to make yourself.
