Used to speak to Weldon frequently on the phone before his passing. We used to talk about all kinds of things including jazz, martial arts, poetry, civil rights, etc. In 1997 i put out the 'Best of Weldon Irvine Jr.' album which feaured 'We gettin' down','Turkish Bath', 'Deja vu', 'Bananas', 'Jungle Juice' etc. I met him quite a few times socially, when he was in the UK touring at the jazz cafe Camden, etc. Wel was a humble man, but a very talented musician & went before his time. RIP my friend.

Had a chance to meet, play, and record with Weldon, I was driving when I heard the DJ on WBAI describe a dear friend who had just commited suicide, when he mentioned the name Weldon Irvine It hit me Hard. I've attached a video response, a small tribute clip from a poetry reading in Montclair NJ with Weldon Speaking. Peace and Love to all his Family and Friends.

Check out the Jamiroquai cover of this if you get a chance. They're one of the few bands that tried to keep good music alive.
