The Myth of Original Sin

Does the Christian idea of original sin make sense? What does it say about human nature? Are we possessed by a stain of evil that drives us to do evil? Or are we simply imperfect beings who are not good enough at doing good? What consequences does this have for how we should understand morality and lead our lives?
