If you were hungry enough, you'd probably kill and eat a dog, but because you don't have to resort to that, you get to pick and choose what you love and what you eat. With the leopard, it had just recently eaten the one monkey when it chose to adopt the other. We're probably not the only animals that find baby animals of other species to be adorable at times. Then once it had bonded, it was hard to see it as food again. Even though they obviously feel love, I doubt animals feel hypocritical.
