How about Charlene wrecking the county jail, that wouldbe an image! ;-)

Actually...the male lyrics were the original ones. The writer changed them to fit a female perspective when they needed a song quickly for Charlene to sing. :3

We saw him in concert on this tour and he was fantastic. Something I'll remember as long as I live. He also sat outside and signed every autograph for a huge queue of people and didn't leave 'tll he'd finished. The guy was a legend. Sadly missed. Why do people have to mock? Pathetic.

An absolute fabulous talent sadly no longer with us. To all those who have posted mocking comments , please take on board Howard was 74 when he appeared on this show and was still a fabulous singer. He came from a generation where you had to have serious ability in order to become a success. He gave us all these wonderful musicals ....boy could he sing and tell a story at the same time.......a joy to watch and a rare talent unlikely to be rivalled !

@Reluctant5 It's not him though, it's the old man / old lady that make love to the preacher man or wreck the county jail.

I haven't heard the male version of this in decades. Thanks for posting it.

This clip was not from the 'Generation Game', but from a short-lived series of chat shows hosted by Bruce Forsyth on the BBC.
