My friend owns a construction business in the DR. He says the same thing to justify paying Haitians what he does. The sad part is that he could literally double their pay and it would still be cheaper than using mechanical labor. The really sad part is that he COULD pay them, but he chooses not to. My girlfriend is from their and currently lives there and sees this everyday, and it's not just a single example. The biggest advocates of capitalism are also the biggest abusers.
@elysiandreamz If you listen to the program, the narrator says that because they are not citizens, they do not have rights according to Dominican law. That is where the problem is. To be honest though, even the Dominican citizens get little support from their supposed rights.
supermorshu So what you think communisms better? They both suck but capitalismo is obviously the better fucking choice, you no got no one breathing down your fucking neck telling you what to do think and say, at least here in my capitalist country, if I wanna sit my ass down an be a lazy fucking cat then I could because I have that right, but since I guess communism is so much better I guess I'll work 10 hours a day for shity ass pay and if I choose not to then I guess I'll have to go t
@BONIFASI007 A respectable wage is what we should all want. How about the DR instituting a min wage so that this type of thing does not happen. And if your asking whether I feel no job is better than slave labor, well my answer is yes. I am on vacation here right now and have been through these shack towns. It is despicable that people are allowed to live like that. Especially in a booming country that billions of international dollars are flowing into.
they get paid depending how much they cut, their paycheck includes all three meals with water, they get papers to live legally in dominican republic, and no one forces them to work there. What these sugar mills do is provide jobs and opportunities for hatian and dominican workers. Most mills in other countries don't use human labor to cut sugar cane, instead they use machinery, meaning less people needed to work, meaning less jobs. Is that what you want?
@lewrites My view is the problems stem from the problem that one in thirty have a personality disorder. That combined with the fact that the majority of humans admire others' anti-social skills. Hey Presto: The Recipe for a Global Shithole in paradise. Rejoice, Feeble Ones:-)))
