Cough Solutions: Home Remedies

For the usual cough with phlegm, you may try the following:
1. Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water. This will loosen the phlegm.
2. Drink hot chicken soup with ginger. Chicken soup has anti-inflammatory properties.
3. Stop smoking and other vices.
4. You may try Vitamin C 500 mg tablet once a day.
5. Drink tea with honey and lemon (or calamansi). Honey soothes irritated throats.
6. Avoid things that will give you allergy like stuffed toys, animals, perfumes and pollen from plants.
7. For cough with asthma component, you can use a nebulizer. You may use 3 cc of normal saline solution and place this in the nebulizer receptable.
8. Rest and sleep a lot. This is the best way to strengthen your body and fight off cough.
For cough more than two weeks in duration, see your doctor. You may need to take a course of antibiotics. Good luck!
