  • Wonderful film, I cried at the end. Just great... Thanks, Carol

  • I never would have figured Olivia de Haviland for such a role but she does a great job. Thanks for posting. I had never heard of this movie but I really enjoyed it.

  • About going to get the dog with a gun- answer:

They were on the dark side of the force wern*t they and he was in a bad spot wasn*t he/- so they talked and he played out his cards...They burn*t the barn too-and were long asking for it,-taking a bead on him several times ,-so they played cards-get it?@GTot it.

  • Nostalgic

  • thx for this nice Movie !

  • THE BEST WESTERN ARGUMENT AND WONDERFUL PERFORMANCES OF LADD HAVILLAND AND KING. GREAT MOVIE INDEED. THANKS.

  • >>the point of the operation? Doesn't make sense. There's also an interesting moral twist, since Ladd's character clearly has no moral or legal right to the dog yet is determined to get the dog back with a gun! BTW anyone know the name of that photographer with the frog voice? He worked in numerous bit roles in both movies and on TV; I forgot his name. Played in some Twilight Zone, HItch, BIG HEAT, "Untouchables," all over the place. usu. weasly characters. I could identify his name if I saw it.

  • Underrated movie, seems to have disappeared through the cracks. An obvious reworking of Ladd's Shane role, this time allowing him the woman. Photography is superior, with some gorgeous long shots (of course color stock had improved since Shane). Interiors were more interesting than in most westerns of the time. Moross of course wrote that classic BIG COUNTRY score but this score doesn't quite sparkle and the cue for the barn fire was terrible. Logic: if the boy's problem is hysterical what's >>
