This is a impro on a very nice backing track in E Lydian. Lydian is the mode (as you might notice) commonly used by Steve Vai or Satriani. Again, the impro is far from perfect but that's what impro means ;)

  • Is that a backing track? Where did you get that? i love your playing and phrasing , great stuff. Do you play i other modes too?

  • @RODNEYSTEPHEN thaks a lot!! send me an email to jdamotte@hotmail.com and I'll send you the backing track ;)

And yes I play in other modes too. My favourites are Dorian, Mixolydian, Lydian, Aeolian Dominant aka the Hindu Mode (see my Guitare Xtreme video) and Hungarian Minor. Modal improvisation is challenging at first, but very rewarding in the end.

  • Lydian mode = Steve Vai mode. ;)

  • Haha, definitely heard some "Under A Glass Moon" in this. Great solo, really heard influences of Petrucci, Vai, and even some Jeff Beck. Great guitar btw

  • I caught the mattias eklundh in there. Very inspired. Great job

  • very familiar sound, reminds me of Satriani and Vai, indeed! Loved that video, man, thanks for uploading!

  • @annabatarowicz I have the same problem.......I find most people believe the two things on each side of the head are for listening - Not true! They are for hearing. The heart is where the listening takes place. ;-D

  • UNA DISCRETA ESECUZIONE PORCO DI QUEL DIO

  • this is great man, question how many positions does the E lydian scale have? ive been looking for a site that is good and shows all the major scales and all the positions do you know any? thanks

  • @jdamotte hungarian minor? never heard of that mode...i love playing in modes especially dorian and lydian dominant!

  • @Metalliprog91 I know, I'm just saying it's interesting that a supposedly "evil" interval that was banned in church music during the Feudal era makes such a beautiful and moving scale.

  • @GodlessShredder That's because it does make the scale! Without it it would just be a major scale :P

  • Great use of the bar. Thanks for the post.
