This was not taped off of a broadcast. I made this video with my camcorder at Shea Stadium on 7-11-98 and caught some of the action. Here you can see the Mets score a run in the first inning, and get into a shoving match with the Expos. Todd Hundley is the first batter, getting a single in his first game back after a long absence. Notice how starting the runners kept the Mets out of a double play and enabled them to later score on an infield hit. Smart baseball!

  • Yes, the subway platform was demolished a few weeks ago. No more free views of the game!

  • Rick Reed pitched into the ninth inning and got the win for the Mets, with Greg McMichael getting the last two outs. The Expo pitchers were Pavano, Batista, and Maddux.

  • I wonder if the Mets are planning to do what the Giants did at their new ballpark - have an area set aside where fans can peek inside and watch the game for free. It works quite well at AT&T Park.

  • My die hard mets fan days. I don't like mets as much as the '98-'01 season.

  • Is it me or was Shea stadium a lot more energetic then Citi?

  • Yes, I can say Isringhausen, Pulsipher, and Wilson...

    But I still don't want to. :D

  • Oh yeah, until 1997, they sure were. A lot of bad free agent signings, trades, and prospects that just did not pan out. Can you say Isringhausen, Pulsipher, and Wilson?

  • Thank you for the amazing vid. Brings back lots of memories...lots of my teenage years are at Shea stadium in the 90s.

  • Oh, God...

The 90's were a hot mess for the Mets.

  • This was the year where they were up by one game in the WC with five to play, only to precede to lose two to the lowly Expos at Shea and then get swept in one of many disastrous series at Turner against the Braves. We had gotten our unusable playoff tickets that weekend.

  • AWESOME VID! THANX!

  • i was 13 in '96 when Hundley hit the homerun to beak the record. my friends dad had season tickets and we were at that game. i remember watchin the local news over and over to see the replay. it was great. LETS GO METS!
