I want to express my dismay at the Academic Board's decision to close the Drama Department at Morley College, Waterloo, London.
I want you all to be aware of the excellent work the department does, it's enviable achievements with 'hard to reach' and excluded areas of the community, its links down the years with local centres of excellence -- The Young Vic, The Old Vic, Southwark Playhouse, The Globe and establishments helping the homeless (StreetsAlive, Cardboard citizens, Refugee Council etc.) The high regard in which the department is held by the Adult Learning Inspectorate, is a testament to its quality and achievement.
The manifold, tangible and rich gains in people's lives afforded by the work of a skilled and dedicated staff team, along with the 'jewel in the crown' -- The Studio Theatre, must not be broken up and discarded in this way. Please email the Learning Skills Council (londoninfo@lsc.gov.uk), The Principal (philip.meaden@morleycollege.ac.uk) or Tessa Jowell, the Arts and Culture Minister(jowellt@parliament.uk) Please Help. Thank You. Dominic Grant -- Lecturer in Drama (dominic.grant@morleycollege.ac.uk)
