Beethoven's 6th symphony, dubbed 'the Pastoral Symphony' segment from Disneys Fantasia.

Act three shows all the centaurs, fawns and cherubs preparing for a grand celebration. Large amounts of grapes are gathered into an enormous tub and pressed into wine as Bacchus, the god of wine and revelry, arrives astride his unicorn-donkey.

With the drunken deity present, the festivities get into full sway. All the revelers dance about merrily. Bacchus joins the dance as well, and also engages in somewhat cavalier behavior.

All of a sudden Zeus crashes the party, raining down a violent storm; seemingly for no other reason than his own amusement (as usual). Everyone runs off, taking whatever shelter they can find while Zeus hurls his thunderbolts to the ground. (continuously aiming ar Bacchus for some reason.)
Eventually, Zeus tires of his little game and hunkers down for a nap.

  • That's weird - why does the red carpet roll up on it's own at 1:20 ?

  • @xAngelk I believe what happened here is that in the original version, there was this slave centauress who was later removed from the picture. I believe it was she who originally rolled out the carpet.

At any rate, it could be rationalized that Dionysus is a god and, drunk or not, can do that sort of thing.

  • the only black people in this are slaves...

  • @spritedaway12 Well, that's the way it was back in the day.

For what it's worth, they don't seem to mind slavery.

  • When I was little I had no idea that the African centaurs were meant to be slaves, I too busy thinking they were soooo....cool. I love the way they have used zebra horses, the other centaurs were plain just in different colours. I suppose a innocent mind works differently.

  • Zeus: Silenus, you fool! You threw a party and didn't invite ME?!?! You will PAY!!! *a minute later* Nap time!!! Or...it could be the personification of a thunderstorm. You decide.

  • Um....I think that's Silenus...Dionysus was supposed to be as young and beautiful as Apollo. Silenus was Dionysus' mentor and usually accompanied by satyrs. According to Wiki: The later Sileni were drunken followers of Dionysus, usually bald and fat with thick lips and squat noses, and having the legs of a human. Later still, the plural "Sileni" went out of use and the only references were to one individual named Silenus, the teacher and faithful companion of the wine-god Dionysus.

  • Haha. 1:59 A mistake of Ursala. She made a centaur and not a human of Ariel!
