"Do Right Woman, Do Right Man," written by Dan Penn and Chips Moman was a hit for Aretha Franklin in 1967. That same year it was recorded by Etta James but was not released until 1993, when it was included on the MCA Chess double CD, The Essential Etta James. Etta James (Jamesetta Hawkins), January 25, 1938- January 20,2012, was one of the most famous American R&B, rock & roll, blues, soul, and jazz singers. Though recorded by many other singers, this version is one of the best.

  • I could have done without the flute. Totally out of place in a soul ballad like this. At least they shoud have mixed it down if not have canned it entirely. Compare it to the tenor sax....now that's a soul instrument, not a friggin flute.

  • @kingpleasure I think that the song starts out being understated by using the flute, but it soon builds up by adding the horns and sax.

  • So many of the artists who came to Muscle Shoals to record ended up covering songs like this, Steal Away, Dark End of the Street etc including Cher (before she turned into whatever).

  • @stananderson7 i don't think he is.

  • @stananderson7 Minnesota Fats.... real name (Rudolf Wanderone Jr) Born 1/19/1913 died 1/15/1996.

  • freakin perfect!!!!~

  • @kingpleasure Nailed it, I couldnt figure what was rubbin me wrong. You answered it, thank you.

  • Absolutely brilliant soulful artist. Considering their & times back then, she held her own hard & strong - no doubt on some level she most def. had to be an inspiration to Janis Joplin as well as quite a few others....rock on soulful soul ~j~

  • R.I.P.Etta!!!

  • RIIP love ya Ms, Etta xxxx

  • Sorry to hear Etta James has left us. What a great singer! I saw a movie about Chess Records which claimed she is the daughter of pool legend Minnesota Fats. If this is true, and she passed on at 73, how old is Minnesota Fats now? I think he is still living.

  • RIP MS. ETTA JAMES
