Anne Hirsch: The First 100 Years (part 2 of 3)

This is a video I made for my grandmother's 100th birthday in 2007. She had made an audio recording of some of her memories back in 1983 (already at the age of 76!). It is filled with mesmerizing, first-hand stories of growing up in the early 20th Century as the daughter of poor Jewish Immigrants from Russia—and the special hardships they faces after her father died when she was only 11. Then she speaks of falling in love with her beloved Jack and marrying and raising 3 children through wars and depressions—and the pain she suffered when she lost Jack so young, like her father. Undaunted, she built a life of her own filled with her favorite things: playing piano, painting watercolors, traveling to exotic corners of the world, and spending time with her ever-growing family as she became a grandmother and great grandmother. It is an inspirational story of someone who has seen so much, suffered so much, and accomplished so much. Because I could not do her own story justice, I simply illustrated her recorded memories with photos, filmstrips, and contemporary imagery. It's a bit long (about 25 minutes) but captures so much. The early sections especially offer an outstanding first-person account of growing up in New York City after 1907. Due to YouTubes rules, it is split into three sections. The first focuses on her youth in New York City; the second on her marriage and world travels; and the third on her love of art and piano, with a final montage of her lifes highlights and a special bonus at the end of granny in action. I love you grandma!
