You have to educate yourself,to be truly illuminated Get a degree for the title if required, but most educational programs are lacking in real skills. College in most cases is just a place for parties and people to not earn the skills to become productive,at least in America.

@PaleoAthletics We use to but interest groups raised the government boogie man again so we allowed the free market to handle it. So Pepsi Co and Coke Co would bid for monopolistic dominance on campuses excluding the other. I asked why was there no more healthy food and was told that kids love fat and sugar and that is what they choose. Anyone who brought up that children should have some sort was balanced diet was considered a socialist against the free market, even though it didn't really exist

@oswald1973 This is what I see as a problem in our education system. It's just the kids wanting to slack off and some of its the teachers. I think we need to quit raising the stakes when its comes to education. Like No Child Left Behind. It doesn't accomplish anything. Since the U.S. is cutting back on education how is the U.S. gonna fund NCLB now? Are the kids doing it to be successful or are they doing it to get funding?

The public education system is a indoctrination program. Yes, kids need to learn to read and write. From there on though, most other things they can learn on their own if they wish. The schools teach a false version of history, science from a very narrow perspective, a false version of civics, the math methods are overcomplicated and suck, they are removing music programs and all things engaging the right brain. It is truly a worker bee training center for stamping out pinheads.

@lurner26 as a university professor and coming from an Asian country, grew up poor and not with any spoon in my mouth... there are strengths and weaknesses of all education systems, creativity versus hardwork... China and India are learning from the US, just like US should learn from China and India.

Most of the interesting and applicable things I have learned in my life are outside of the classroom, the foundation was certainly there, but once one gets into higher education in the United States everything is a diploma mill, if you want to get anything out of your classes you have to go above ad beyond the work given because it is almost all just busy work that is time consuming and teaches very little of value. Even AP and honors classes won't prepare you for college either.

@ThirstyDad65 Its NOT rote memorization its systematic intelligence and it is what is 'IN" your computer. Without the Chinese and the S.Koreans your computer RAM would be Way more expensive...so don't knock it....they can refine , reduced and reproduce far more efficiently than western nations. They just have a different type of intelligence and skill. That's why western education is in trouble because the Ben Steins of this world FAIL to recognize this. Intellect has many forms.
