Irish - German Shepherd available for adoption.

Hi, my name is Irish and I am 1.5 years old. I am a handsome black German Shepherd with tan feet. My coat glows a beautiful dark red hue in the sun. I am very affectionate with my foster family and love getting pets and hugs. I know my sit, down, shake, and go to bed commands and I am learning to stay and come. I am really quiet when crated and will sleep through the night on a dog bed. I am house-trained and I ride well in a car.

I was not socialized at all in my prior life, making me skittish and unsure about new people and situations. I tend to panic if I am forced into something I do not understand. I get scared if strangers approach me suddenly and I will bark if I feel cornered, especially by unknown men. I prefer if people wait for me to feel comfortable enough to approach them I have started enjoying walks in the neighborhood and my foster mom thinks that I have made progress in the past two weeks. I walk well on the leash and love going for runs.

I am curious but shy when I see other dogs on walks. I like having my lab foster sister around and enjoy playing with her but I play really rough. I know that it is safe to get past that noisy and unstable trash can or the intimidating suitcase lurking in the corner when my foster sister walks past them in a nonchalant manner. I do not resource guard my toys or my food. I love throwing toys up in the air and catching them, playing fetch and playing with the water hose.

Sometimes I have a lot of puppy-like energy and I will start chewing on everything in sight. My foster mom gets me my kong toys to chew on instead and I almost always take her up on the offer. Otherwise a quick round of fetch always does the trick to get the edge off. I am learning what is and is not appropriate to chew and to settle down when my parents are busy browsing on their laptops. I am most partial to shoes but that seems to make my mom real mad so I am learning to leave it. My foster mom tells me that I am a really intelligent dog and that I will be the star of any obedience class that my new family will take me to.

I should not live with cats and at this time, I need a home where the children are older, in their upper teens. I will need my new family to work on building my confidence and be patient while teaching me that the world outside is safe. In return, I will shower them with love, happiness and companionship and be the best dog ever.

He found a home? When placing animals we MUST deliver to the home, check neighbors first (how do they treat animals, etc.). DO NOT give up at the door!!!!!!

Find out if they have a job ... check on them. Get a Vet reference. Some bad people out there ... I don't want to go into detail here about what goes on - out there. Not into teaching evil.
