MONUMENTA 2010 (photos; music 'Sorry' by Kyteman)
This year Christian Boltanski was given The Grand Palais to present a special work of art, called PERSONNES.
A wall made up of randomly numbered metal boxes confronts the visitor upon entry, with behind it 75 square plots of upper body garments (coats, jackets, jumpers, shirts etc.) with 4 metal posts at the corners, from the top of which small loudspeakers continually broadcast different heartbeats recorded over the years by Boltanski for his Archives of the Heart project (you can record your own heartbeat on the spot).
In the back a huge pyramid of garments, and a deus ex machina/hand of destiny that randomly grabs some garments, only to lift them up into the air and drop them back onto the pyramid.
What an interesting idea. I particularly like the pyramid. Fantastic space for an exhibition
