Teaser Video of a project I currently work on. It shows a self constructed (and build;)) quadcopter. I will fly fully autonomously based on sonar, IR and IMU sensor fusion. In a second phase it will have computer vision based localization and so on.

It has two Bluetooth interfaces and wifi on an arm7 board running ubuntu. The flight systems runs on Atmega 1280. Remote flight works with a GUI on my MacBook - I do not use hobby shop remote controls;)

  • @Nomoreidsleft Thanks!

  • @purplegreendahlia You should have a look at the Arducopter project on DYIDrones. It's got everything you wanted to do. (Autoomous, sonars, GPS, IMU (gyros, accelerometers, magnetometer, barometer) Running of a Atmega2560. I just finish building mine, and it's very stable.

  • @Nomoreidsleft No, it really took-off, but you're correct: I did not pursue that particular quadcopter project, because I had the chance to join a professional team with better hardware.

  • I guess this project never got off the ground. (Pun intended) Of course we amateurs are all flying autonomous arducopters now using off-the-shelf radio equipment.
