On people being buried in homes. There are several theories on the specifics but all agree that this was done to honor the dead and bring good energy into the home. They were buried with jewelry, food, weapons and other valuables. One woman was even buried with her dog, in a hugging position, surrounded by jewels, 7,000 years ago.

Something that was unclear to me is this - if there were no trees in Orkney, what did the people use for fires? In Skara Brae there are a number of structures used that were built to hold fires but there isn't a tree to be found. ??

Thank you for posting. I live Ohio and so much of this reminds me of the mounds here though 3,000 to 4,000 year later. Near where I live there was a mound structure whose job was to cremate people. You have to wonder how and why so much effort and resources were put into these structures.
