Brown Thomas in love with Spring 2012

For us, the Spring Summer 2012 season is defined by a blooming sophistication with designers tapping into their feminine side for inspiration. Emerging from this womanly pursuit is a whimsical yet elegant imprint. Retro-inspired minimalism dictates the season's silhouette from `20s drop waists to `50s hourglass shapes and `60s truncated hems; all the while retaining a carefree charm. The dress is fashion's big story with 'Ladylike Glam' its sartorial headline. Think nipped-in waists, sculpted hips, shoulder-slung capes and plunging necklines -- sensual yet also gracious. The antidote to such hyper-femininity comes in the shape of sporty silhouettes: bomber and boyfriend jackets, mini lengths, simple pullovers and slip dresses; most especially, Stella McCartney's tailored suiting, a key investment. Shapes and fabrics worked together to create clean lines in luxury materials like broderie anglaise, lace, rigid cotton, wool crepe and other stiff bonded fabrics. Details follow suit whether sunray pleats at Prada or Dries Van Noten's volume specific peplums. Prints use quirkier patterns from cars and flames to vegetables, aquatic motifs, ethnic and geometric shapes. While a garden party of appliqué daisies and tropical vegetation keep florals at the forefront. Palette-wise, yellow drives a kaleidoscope of shades including red, orange, fuchsia and green, modern monochromes and iridescent sorbet shades. As for new labels, expect to fall in love with Victoria, Victoria Beckham, Jay Ahr and Isabel Marant Etoile.
