My first tutorial! Please be nice. I have a hard time walking and chewing gum so for me this is pretty darn impressive :^)

To me, hooping below the knees is the same as hooping at the knees. Regardless of direction, you have a puller leg and pusher leg. (sorry I only show clockwise here.) The puller leg does most of the work, but the pusher leg is also important, I think more so than when knee hooping. The puller leg can do little kicks to the side to get more momentum. As with all tricks, its about the rhythm. To move the hoop downward I slow down very slightly and minimize my movements, letting the hoop travel down. To move the hoop upward I use my pusher leg to give it tiny shoves upward, just as I do when knee hooping. (as you can see the hoop gets kinda sideways wonky when Im doing this, something I need to work on.)

I never found this particularly painful, maybe just a tad in the beginning when the hoop would bang around some. I love wearing my CONS when ankle hooping cause it offers me the perfect combo of style and protection. :^P

I hope this helps! Any questions, please ask. Good Luck and Happy Hooping!!!

p.s. I make no claims with my terminology, I never use correct terms for anything. (i.e. halo) As I always say with my friends... YOU KNOW what I'm talking about!

  • YOWZA! I just found this tutorial... and I am so impressed. I recently learned the kick-start, but have never tried keeping the hoop below knees. Your breakdown is excellent, and I hope to have a bit of success at this skill --- you really do make it look so easy....

  • This is really helpful on multiple levels; I think this will improve my knee hooping greatly, knowing that there's a different method out there! Thanks for the info!
